As we all know there is a rather special game of football coming up on Saturday…. No not England v Sweden! That is merely a sideshow, the main event is the Legends game at Church Road (12.30pm KO).
North Ferriby United Legends take on Hull City Legends in a friendly that has been arranged to help replace some of the much needed funds that Ferriby will lose due to the Billy Bly Trophy game later this month only involving Hull City’s U23s and not the first team.
Since taking over a few short weeks ago, new Ferriby owner Carl Chadwick has made a number of positive changes at the club and the idea for this legends game appears to have been a brilliant one. Ticket sales have been strong and there is little wonder when former City stars including Deano, Ian Ashbee, Nick Barmby and Brian Hughes will don the black and amber shirt once again.
On the Ferriby side of things some of the all time greats of the club will be back at Church Road. All time leading goalscorer Gary Bradshaw, iconic Captain Paul Foot and current first team manager Chris Bolder will all be on display for what should be a great spectacle.
The legends game is in the middle of a football triple header at the ground on Saturday. North Ferriby United’s current squad get their pre-season underway with a friendly against East Yorkshire Carnegie (10.30am KO) before the Legends game.
Everyone is then encouraged to pack out the clubhouse to cheer on Gareth Southgate and the England lads as they take on Sweden in the World Cup Quarter Final (3pm KO). It should be a great atmosphere to see England attempt to make the Semi-Finals of the World Cup for the first time in almost 30 years. It will also be a huge boost to North Ferriby United as they attempt to find some stability after a few turbulent years.
