The title winning season for Hull City Ladies isn’t quite over just yet. Next Saturday (2nd June kick off 12pm), the Tigresses will take on German Champions FC Donop-Voßheide at Hull University Sports and Fitness Centre, in Rebecca Beech’s testimonial match.
Beechy who recently turned 34 has been associated with and starred for Hull City Ladies for well over ten years. She did have a short stint in the Women’s elite competition, WSL, with Durham, but its her achievements with the Tigresses that make her the stand out nominee for a thoroughly deserved testimonial game.
Beechy heads by some distance the appearance record and goal scoring charts for the Tigresses.
Top goal scorer in 9 different seasons, 6 time ERCFA senior cup winner, 3 time runner up, Player of the year, Player’s player of the year and a double NERWFL Premier League winner are just some of the accolades Beechy has received during her distinguished career.
Rebecca showed in last week’s demolition of Morecambe that even has the veteran of the side she still has the star quality. Her FOUR goals included an expertly taken lob over the keeper from outside the box, a back flick Ronaldo would’ve been proud of, a 20 yard screamer into the top corner and a tap in! She was also instrumental in winning a penalty for the team when all the opposition keeper could do was pole axe her in a 1 on 1.
Beechy’s records in the Black and Amber and her commitment over the years are all the more remarkable when you learn that she combines all the rigours of her unpaid footballing career with a job and motherhood as well as everyday life.
As part of our preparations for the programme for next week’s game, we at FanaticHull have spoken to many of Beechy’s past and present team mates and to say Beechy is a GREAT player, team mate, colleague, friend and most importantly a person is the understatement of the year. To a person, everyone we have spoken to have had nothing but glowing tributes to Rebecca and we at FanaticHull 100% agree with everything we have heard.
Beechy is the epitome of being a Tigress and has suffered all the lows and enjoyed all the highs of her glittering career with Hull City Ladies and she deserves to be cheered on by a massive crowd next Saturday, so we’d urge you all to come down and be part of the celebrations, it promises to be a great occasion as our very own League Champions take on their German counterparts.
Oh and if it comes down to penalties my money is definitely on the Tigresses and Beechy to slot the winner!!
The celebrations start with a youth team fixture at 10am before the main event kicks off at 12pm.
