Hull City Ladies are mid way through a tough four game away run that could make or break their promotion hopes. Realistically it is a two horse race for the title and promotion between Rachel Gay’s side and Brighouse Town, though Liverpool Feds will maintain that they have a chance of overhauling the two Yorkshire sides.
As it stands, Hull City Ladies sit top on 42 points from 16 games, Liverpool are 8 points adrift on 34 from 16 and Brighouse sit third on 32 points but have three games in hand over the top two. Crucially Brighouse host Liverpool tomorrow night (Wednesday) in a massive game. A draw or defeat for Liverpool will definitely rule them out of the race in our opinion, but a win will give them a light at the end of the tunnel but also enhance the Tigresses chances of gaining top spot come mid May and promotion.
With their destiny in their own hands the Tigresses know that if they keep winning then the cannot be caught, so after a disappointing draw ten days ago at Mossley Hill was quickly put aside with a fine gutsy win at Bolton on Sunday. Wanderers were a well drilled, well organised side who gave Gay and head coach Danny Johnson plenty to think about, but their side showed a real champion spirit to grind out a 0-1 win.
A pivotal moment in the season came in the 75th minute when top scorer Hope Knight scored the only goal of the game with an audacious shot over the keeper who she had spotted off her line to deservedly win the match.
Pivotal because in season’s gone by the Tigresses may not have found a way to win this game but the mental toughness and will to win, instilled in the squad this year by Gay and Johnson got them over the line and the crucial 3 points. Every team in the division want to be the one to take the Tigresses unbeaten league run away from them, but they will need to be at the top of their game both mentally and physically to do that.
Next to try will be Chester le Street on Sunday, who like Bolton were, are on a decent run themselves recently winning their last three to move them up to relative mid table safety, so the Tigresses travel to Moor Park knowing they are there to be shot at and will have to be on their mettle to come away with the points.
Following the trip to the North East, City will complete a four week road trip at The Cumberland Arena where Crewe Alexandra will host on Sunday 22nd April. Then comes the biggest game of the season by far.
Brighouse Town are the penultimate visitors to Hull University in a game which could decide the title and the coveted promotion spot.
The Tigresses are encouraging ALL sporting fans from across the City and beyond to come down and cheer on the Tigresses in this MASSIVE game, so put the date in your diary and set a reminder and join us on the 29th.
