Hull’s Connor Coghill will make his professional debut on 13th April at Doncaster Dome, on the undercard of the British Bantamweight title fight between current champion Josh Wale and challenger Ukashir Farooq.
Coghill, managed by Hull Boxing star and training partner Luke Campbell, was originally scheduled to box last Friday in Leeds but the fight was cancelled at the last minute following an opponent no-show.
When the news emerged of the cancellation only hours before the fight was scheduled to take place, there was obvious disappointment for Team Coghill and his many travelling fans. However, despite the initial disappointment, fans still left the venue satisfied as they got to witness Coghill box in a 4 round exhibition fight with Kyle Skully, who had also suffered an opponent no-show.
Whilst Team Coghill were still understandably frustrated with the late cancellation, some would say it was a blessing in disguise. Not only did Connor get the opportunity to shake off the ring rust having not boxed in almost 18 months, but he also gained some valuable experience against a talented up and comer who possessed a significant weight advantage on the night. From the fans perspective, we got to see a glimpse of what is to come from this exciting young prospect from Hull.
Following the exhibition fight on Friday night, Coghill was straight back to work in the gym awaiting news of a new fight date. Fortunately, he didn’t have to wait long before the opportunities began to arise as he was shortly offered a slot on the Doncaster Dome card courtesy of Stefy Bull Promotions. A testament to his already established and ever-growing popularity, Connor has done well to get a slot on a British title undercard before he has even officially competed as a professional. With the ring rust gone and a few competitive rounds in the bank, Connor is rearing to go and put on a show for the fans. His journey starts here, come along and enjoy the ride.
