Magnificent Pirates Slay Deeside Dragons.

The Hull Pirates produced a brilliant performance away from home to defeat the Deeside Dragons 9-3 this Sunday night. The Pirates sat 6th in the table, two places and three points above the Dragons. The Pirates were boosted by the signing of Hull-lad Bobby Chamberlain from the Invicta Dynamos. He is a tough guy who will not shy away from a brawl, which the Pirates fans love!

The Pirates began the first period brilliantly, with Kieran Beech opening the scoring. Funnily enough, Bobby Chamberlain’s first act in a Hull Pirates jersey was to concede a penalty and gain a 2 minute break. Soon after, the Pirates doubled their lead through forward Sam Towner. The Dragons then put their first goal on the board. Jason Hewitt however quickly restored the Pirates 2 goal advantage before debutant Bobby Chamberlain grabbed his first goal in the black and green. The Pirates rounded off a fantastic first period with two quick goals to finish the half 6-1 to the good.

The second period started poorly for the Pirates, with the Dragons scoring their second and, after taking a powerplay, scored their third soon after. This made the score 6-3 so if the Dragons scored the next goal, the game was well and truly on. Luckily for the Pirates though, this didn’t happen! Stalwart Lee Bonner put the Dragons out of sight by scoring the Pirates’ seventh goal of a very frenetic evening. The second period therefore ended like the first, with the Pirates fully in control of the game. The beginning of the third period saw the Pirates take their second powerplay which brought their 8th goal of the game. What happened next came out of pure frustration from the Dragons. There was a fight in the middle of the ice between the Dragons’ #14 Mickael Brodin and Pirates’ #17 Jason Hewitt who, after much deliberation from the officials, were ejected from the game. After another ejection for the Dragons, the Pirates scored their ninth and final goal through Jordan Fisher with less than a minute remaining.

What a result then for the Pirates! Not only that, but what a game – 12 goals, 3 ejections and 15 penalties. The black and green will be looking to take this performance into next Sunday’s game against the Solway Sharks at Hull Arena. If you can, make sure you get down there for a 5.30 face off!
