Young City star Jarrod Bowen has had a blistering start to the season and has been recognised for his efforts as he has been awarded the EFL Young Player of the Month for August.
While City’s performances have been inconsistent at best so far this season Bowen’s have been anything but as he has been the shining light in Leonid Slutsky’s side.
The season started in perfect fashion for Bowen as he scored a brilliant equaliser at Aston Villa on the opening day in front of the Sky Sports cameras. He hasn’t looked back since and has added four more goals meaning he sits joint top of the Championship goal scoring charts with five goals. Slutsky will be delighted with this as his strikers have not been firing especially since Abel Hernandez got injured so goals from wide areas are a welcome relief for the Russian.
His latest goal came in the 2-1 away defeat at Fulham which was a carbon copy to his goal at QPR when City again lost 2-1.
Bowen is doing his bit but his teammates need to follow suit. He can’t be expected to carry the team with his goal scoring as he isn’t an out and out striker.
It’s not just his goal scoring that has been impressive though, Bowen has added flair and pace to the side and his making his mark in one of the toughest leagues in the world against players with far more experience than him. He is setting the bar for his City teammates to reach which is amazing for someone of his age. Young players can get swamped in the Championship but there is no danger of that with Bowen he has stood head and shoulders above his teammates so far this season and they need to follow his lead.
Bowen appears to be forming a promising partnership with Kamil Grosicki and he will have been pleased to see the Polish flyer stay at the KCOM beyond the transfer window. Hopefully they will continue to blossom as a wing partnership with both players creating and scoring goals.
The only worry for City fans now is if Bowen carries on like this Ehab may well have him in the shop window come January. Hopefully not but we know what Ehab can be like. All we can say is well done Jarrod and keep up this level of performance for the rest of the season!
