Hull City Ladies take and early break from league action as they travel to the North East to take on Chester le Street Town Ladies tomorrow (kick off 2pm) in the Determining round of the FA Women’s Premier League Cup.
After a flying start to the Northern Division One campaign which has seen Rachel Gay’s side smash home TEN goals in just two fixtures to leave them sitting on top of the table in the early stages, Gay and head coach Danny Johnson will be looking for the Tigresses to continue the rich vein of form and progress in the cup at the expense of their winless opponents. In fact Chester le Street have yet to register a single goal this season, losing 4-0 to Liverpool Feds on the opening day before losing 1-0 to Leeds United at Elland Road last week in front of an 830+ crowd.
The confidence in the Tigress camp is sky high, particularly after last week’s impressive comeback win over the highly fancied Chorley Ladies. 2-0 down at half time the Tigresses flew out of the blocks in the 2nd period to smash home 4 unanswered goals.
Rachel explained to me during the week that the team spirit and the will to win within the squad is phenomenal, and the grit and determination shone through at Euxton Villa resulting in the 4 goal rush to the win to maintain the 100% start to the year.
Despite not been on the score sheet last week, recent signing Hope Knight will be looking to add to her four goal haul from the opening day demolition of Barnsley Ladies, which sees her top the hotshots chart early on. One stat Hope will not want to increase tomorrow is her yellow card tally, having picked up a caution in the first two games.
The talented youngster has a big future in the game and is a Tigress in every sense of the word. She is skillful with a tremendous shot and shes never afraid of a tackle and hates losing.
If the Tigresses maintain the start to the season we can see nothing but a victory for them, but Gay and Johnson will be guiding against any complacency from their charges.
Tomorrow also sees the reserve Tigresses get their league campaign underway at Hull Uni kick off 2pm when Sheffield United Ladies second team make the trip from South Yorkshire to take on Stacey Hubbard’s side.
Having watched the squad been put through their paces during training in midweek, its evident to us that everyone is chomping at the bit and raring to go. The mixture of youth and experience within the squad will want to emulate the senior Tigresses and get off to a flying start.
So if you want a Sunday football fix and can’t make it to the North East, get down to Inglemire Lane and give the Reserve Ladies your support. It’s FREE entry so what better way to enjoy a Sunday afternoon?
