Two goal Thompson helps Tigresses to top of the league.

Another rocket from Katie Thompson.

After last weeks dream start to the league campaign when the Tigresses hammered Barnsley Ladies 6-1 they travelled to Euxton Villa to take Chorley Ladies who had also scored 6 in their season opener.

Rachel Gay’s side were looking for a first ever league win over their Lancashire opponents on their home patch and lay down an early marker to the rest of Northern Division 1.

Played out under a lovely sunny sky the game took a little while to get into full swing but on 25 minutes recent summer signing Rachael Ackroyd watched on as her shot flew just over the home sides bar. Sophie Stamp then saw her decent effort fly wide of the post before Chorley opened the scoring on the 30 minute mark, with their first effort on the Tigresses goal.

Despite leading, Chorley were having trouble breaking down a resolute City defence but with 6 minutes remaining of the first half they doubled their lead with only their second shot on goal  to take a 2 goal advantage to the break. 2-0

Within five minutes of the restart though Gay’s side were back in the contest when talismanic captain Jo Symington slotted home.

Captain Jo Symington opened the Tigresses account.

On as a second half substitute for Eden Pedersen, Katie Thompson (main pic) levelled the game up 8 minutes later when on her seasonal league debut she made it 2-2 and game on. It got better for the Tigresses and Thompson ten minutes later when she latched onto a superb pass from the excellent Sophie Stamp to coolly lob the home keeper to put the Tigresses in front for the first time.

Ackroyd then completed the comeback six minutes later when she scored her first league goal in Tigress colours to complete a stunning turnaround as the game ended 2-4.

The ladies show tremendous character and desire to turnaround the game in the second period and go top of the fledgling league table on goal difference.

Next week the Tigresses start the cup campaign with a trip to the North East to take on Chester le Street Town Ladies and on this form will be brimming with confidence but will not be taking anything for granted.

Pleasant reading for Hull City Ladies.
