After a very busy preseason, Hull City Ladies are ready to roar into action tomorrow afternoon when they entertain Barnsley Ladies FC at Hull University 3G kick off 2pm, in their opening fixture of the 2017/18 FA WPL Northern Division One.
Looking to build on a fine third placed finish last year when the Ladies narrowly missed out on promotion in the final few weeks of the season, the Tigresses will not take their newly promoted opponents lightly and will want to continue where they left off last week when they demolished last season’s champions Guiseley Vixens 3-0 in the last of six preseason friendlies.
The Tigresses played the Vixens off the park with some lovely attractive football and with a little more composure it could of been 6 or 7 nil. What will be encouraging to Rachel Gay and Danny Johnson is the amount of chances the Ladies are creating through the likes of Emily Smith, Hope Knight and Rebecca Beech amongst others and with a little work on the finishing the Tigresses could be in for a bumper goal scoring season.
At the back Amy Halloran has been in fine form between the posts in preseason and was impressive in keeping the Vixens at bay last weekend, just in front of Halloran could be the experienced defensive duo of Natasha Cooke and Ellice Jackman. Last week, Cooke was immense all afternoon, marshalling the defence superbly, who as a unit restricted the Vixens to a handful of efforts all game.
As well as a wealth of experience right through the squad, there is the exuberance of youth and some fantastic talent that will trouble most sides in this division. The Tigresses have made some exciting signings over the off season, the integration into the squad has been seamless and will undoubtedly enhance an already strong squad.
All the hard yards of preseason are now done and it’s time for the Tigresses to ROAR!
