Hall Road hammer Westella

Still unbeaten in an intriguing pre-season campaign, Hall Road Rangers’ contained their unbeaten run with a comprehensive 8-0 victory over Westella & Willerby at Haworth Park.

Ground sharing this season with their opponents, Rangers controlled the game throughout and passed the ball around in a fluent and creative manner. It was the perfect way to get ready for the upcoming season, as the NCEL Premier Division side were clinical in the taking of their chances.

Chris Spinks and Josh Batty out wide in their respective wings were both terrific and Batty’s hat-trick in particular was outstanding. The players who came on in the second half also put a very good shift in and will have given manager Dave Ricardo lots to think about ahead of the League opener.

Hall Road played some great football, and were 4-0 up at half time. In truth they never looked like being in much trouble and hit the ground running from the off.

First half goals came from Matty Crane, Gareth Owen, Chris Spinks and Josh Batty, who netted the first of his three strikes just before the break. All were finished well off the back of some well executed attacking moves from all corners of the pitch as the chances kept coming.

Rolling subs affected the rhythm of Hall Road’s play in the second half as it became somewhat disjointed, and it was almost half an hour of play before the next goal came – with the impressive Josh Batty grabbing it following another splendid finish.

James Piercy then added a sixth strike, before an own-goal, very unluckily so from a Westella point of view, found the Rangers net. With two minutes to go Josh Batty then completed the rout with his hat-trick goal, but this effort was all about the team, showing just how well they work together to cut through their opposition defence.

Rangers will face their final home pre-season friendly on Thursday morning when Armthorpe Welfare visit Haworth Park (11am kick off).

Both sides have swapped places in terms of league standing following Hall Road’s promotion to, and Armthorpe Welfare’s relegation, from the NCEL Premier Division.
