Hull City Ladies preparations move up a level

Hull City Ladies’ preparations for the new season move up a level this week when Rachel Gay’s side travel to the home of the World’s first football club, Sheffield FC in the first of six pre-season Derby friendlies.

The squad have been back in training for a little over two weeks and have certainly been put through their paces by Gay and head coach, Danny Johnson. Bleep tests, speed work, ball drills and stamina work have been in abundance getting the Ladies back into the swing of things.

The now annual trip to the seaside for all three of the squads has took place over the weekend and the ‘boss’ Rachel’s Team B won the beach football tournament.

The trip has become an important part of pre-season to strengthen and enhance the camaraderie between an already very tightly knit club.

The Tigresses will now get stuck into six tasty fixtures as they build towards the new season in Northern Division One.

Thursday’s opening fixture against Women’s Super League side Sheffield FC Ladies will certainly test Gay’s side before the first of four home pre-season friendlies on Sunday (23/7/17) versus Bradford Ladies, followed by matches against Huddersfield Town LFC, Castleford White Rose, Rotherham United Ladies and ending with a home friendly against near neighbours York City Ladies in mid August.

The above six ‘friendlies’ against near neighbours will be ideal preparation for the rigours of another long but hopefully successful campaign and will give every player in the club the chance to impress Gay and Johnson before the season opener.

Whilst the Ladies are hard at work in training, they are also working hard in securing much needed sponsorship to cover travel costs, training and playing facilities as they  strive for promotion.
