After last week’s heroics away at Forest Green, Ferriby now face another must win game at home to Boreham Wood. Despite the win last week The Villagers are still 8 points from safety with only 15 left to play for so realistically they are going to need to win 4 or 5 of the remaining five games to have any chance of survival.
Steve Housham’s side were 16/1 underdogs last week and no one gave them a prayer. To be fair though after 3 big defeats in the lead up to the Forest green game it’s not surprising that Ferriby were written off. In many ways though it’s also not surprising that Ferriby went to the promotion chasers and came away with the three points. This whole campaign has been one of defiance. Steve Housham was written off by many and his team by almost everyone. People talked off a record low points total and being relegated by Christmas. The people that mattered didn’t listen to or believe any of that though and they assembled a young squad on a shoestring and gave them a simple message to enjoy their football this season and that is exactly what they have done.
Wins against York, Southport and Torquay and double scalps of Guiseley and Gateshead have been impressive but last week’s result was arguably one of the biggest results in the National League this season. It was an extremely disciplined performance and once Reece Thompson nodded Ferriby in front from a Danny Emerton cross they never really looked like conceding. The social media accounts and supporters of the home side were quick to praise Steve Housham and his side afterwards and they deserved the plaudits. That results has given them an outside chance, now they have to grasp it!
Tomorrow’s visitors to the Eon Visual Media Stadium are Boreham Wood. They won the reverse fixture back in October but they are a very different side away from home. They are without an away win in 6 games with 5 defeats in that sequence. This has to be a positive sign for Ferriby who will look to capitalise on the visitor’s poor away form. Having struggled earlier in the season Boreham Wood are now comfortable in mid table so they may not be going at it full tilt which is another aspect Ferriby will look to exploit.
Where will the game be won and lost?
It’s pretty simple really the key for Ferriby will be to go out and play football with lots of energy. They have started well in games at home quite often this season and if they do so again they may well have a chance of getting a positive result. If they can keep another clean sheet that would obviously be a massive boost after they achieved the feat last week at Forest Green.
Another win and results going their way would see Ferriby very much back in the race for survival with only 4 games to go.
