Preview: Hall Road Rangers v Nostell Miners Welfare

Hall Road Rangers will tomorrow welcome Nostell Miners Welfare to Haworth Park for their final scheduled home game of the season.

Having lost just twice all season in the league at home, Rangers will be confident of recording three points against a Nostell side already relegated from the NCEL First Division and with just one league win since November.

Pressure however can do funny things, and as Dave Ricardo’s promotion chasing side remain hopeful of a top two finish, complacency will be something they are keen to avoid.

With three games now remaining, Hall Road are relying on a favour from elsewhere for automatic promotion, but must also maintain focussed on themselves as a slip-up will mean the lottery of the end of season play-offs await.

A maximum points haul from tomorrow’s match will guarantee a home tie in the playoffs as it will secure a third placed finish. It will also signal, Hall Road’s best finishing position at this level since they were promoted in 2008.

Josh Batty will return for his first league game since the completion of a three match ban, whilst Gareth Owen is available again after been inelegible for Wednesday night’s Senior Cup tie with Hull City.

Speaking after the Senior Cup exit on Wednesday night Ricardo admits his side need to start taking their chances early in games. We have the likes of Gareth and Craig Muirhead to come back for the Nostell game as well as Joel Drewery and Jamie Coulson. We need to freshen up a bit for Saturday and then we’ve got a week’s rest before a very difficult game at Rossington.

The Nostell one is a game we should win but we have to stsrt taking our chances early. We missed a great chance early on at Dronfield and again on Wednesday night in the cup game.

When you are challenging at the top you shouldn’t get complacent. It should be three points but its still a game we may potentially slip up on, and we have to make sure we don’t slip up.”

The club are hoping for their highest attendance of the season, and to entice supporters, all paying adults are entitled to a free drink in the bar.
