Defining weekend for Ionians

The bottom of the National League 1 continues to make interesting reading if you follow Ionians.
With eight fixtures remaining, the battle to stay up looks to be boiling down to two teams – Blaydon and Ionians.
Both sides lost last weekend but it was Ionians who came out away the happier with the bonus point they secured in their 88 point game at Coventry last Saturday.
Macclesfield are perilously close to dropping out of the league and one more defeat could see the stuffing knocked out of them.
Ionians could inflict that killer blow this weekend when Macclesfield make the trip to east Yorkshire.
Ionians have already beaten Macclesfield 29-19 when the two sides met on September 24.
Macclesfield have lost their last 12 games and haven’t recorded a win since November 5 when they beat Darlington Mowden Park 43-16.
In their last three fixtures, Macclesfield have shown some attacking flair averaging 23.6 points a game. But defensively, they are conceding on average 48.3 points.
Victory would certainly give Ionians’ survival hopes a massive boost.
At the same time at Ionians and Macclesfield do battle, Blaydon are at home to Birmingham Moseley where a Blaydon defeat coupled with an Ionians win would see
Ionians  leapfrog Blaydon.
